I found the root of the technical problem–dust. My CPU heat sink is really gunked with the stuff. It makes it hot and forces my computer to shut off sometimes. You get the picture. Thanks to the help of my fan friends, though, I was able to keep my computer from overheating while it encoded this week’s podcast. Tomorrow I’m going to get some compressed air see if I can clean it out without taking it off the motherboard.
